Collector's guide · Signed books
Michael Douglas's memoir came out October 6, 2026, and signed copies sold through Barnes & Noble, Books-A-Million and Waterstones. Not every signed copy being resold is genuine, and every fake we have seen is one of two styles. Here is what we have passed, the two fakes to learn, and how to check your own copy for free.
What passed
Each card is a real submission reviewed by ACOA's authenticators, who compared every copy with over 300 exemplars signed by Michael Douglas throughout his career. The photo is the customer's own upload; the source is where they told us they bought it. Tap any photo to see it full size.
What did not pass
Every copy our authenticators have failed so far is a variation of one of 2 signatures: a short style and a full style. Both fake styles show unusually high formational consistency, and all of the fake signatures contain multiple formational factors that do not occur within Michael Douglas's normal signature range. Learn them and you can spot most of what is being resold. A fail is our opinion of the signature, never a claim about the person who sent it.

A complete, written-out signature that looks fuller than the real one. Example from a copy bought at Barnes & Noble.
Each one is a variation of style 1 or style 2.

Same book, same page. One authentic copy and one of each fake style, close up.
How a book gets checked
A clear, straight-on photo of the signed page in daylight. Add the title page and the receipt or order email if you have them.
Pick Michael Douglas, choose Books, upload the photos and tell us where the copy came from. Enter MDBOOK and the $25.00 fee comes off.
Our authenticators compare the signature against known examples of Michael Douglas's hand from the same period.
Passed copies get an Online Pre-Certified page you can share. Any result can be upgraded to a mail-in with a tamper-proof sticker and full COA.
Free through November 1, 2026
Every Michael Douglas book submitted for online pre-certification is free with the code below, however many copies you have. The offer ends November 1, 2026.
Online pre-certification is an opinion from photographs. ACOA recommends upgrading a passed item with our Mail-In Authentication service for a physical inspection, after which it receives a tamper-proof sticker and a full Certificate of Authenticity.
